Enjoy a secluded getaway at The Sussex Stables nestled in the South Downs

Taking time out to spend with my close family has been on the top of my wish list this winter. Not wanting to travel far, when I was invited to stay at The Sussex Stables (hidden deep in the South Downs) I took the chance to unwind, switch off and tune out. And all just half an hour from Brighton.

** Collaboration With The Sussex Stables **

If you are looking for a break where you can enjoy brisk walks, lots of fresh air, breathtaking views, more importantly, much needed down time – then take a look at The Sussex Stables. And the interior was pretty lust-worthy too! Take my mini tour below.

Take a Look

The Sussex Stables, Shoreham

Hidden in a secluded spot, The Sussex Stables, is deep in the South Downs but less than five minutes drive from Shoreham-By-Sea. You have to drive up countryside hills, past sheep and working farms to find this pretty holiday home. When you arrive, I bet you’ll be taken away by the stunning views out across the Sussex coast. This place hits that sweet spot between rural retreat and modern all-out luxury – all blended together perfectly with original interior features and lots of creature comforts.

The converted horse stables (which is available to rent on the Mulberry Cottages website) is the epitome of escaping the rat race and getting back to nature. All while not giving up any of life’s luxuries either. Utter bliss!

As soon as you walk into the converted stable block you feel immediately welcomed. There is a huge spacious open plan living area – great for our family to hang out in, a large dining table for meal times, a squishy corner sofa for movie nights, a high-end kitchen with everything you need plus a cosy reading corner with log burner and armchairs.

There are four cleverly designed bedrooms – and two large bathrooms. All the bedrooms feature zip-link beds so flexibility when staying. It sleeps up to eight guests.

I was invited by the owner to enjoy a two night stay. I brought my sister, brother-in-law and two little nephews to join me as well. It was perfect timing too with half term for the boys. As a family, we planned to cook each night, go for a pub lunch, and made sure we packed our wellies and woolie jumpers so we were ready whatever the weather.

On our wish list as a family was to play board games (Harry Potter Cluedo) , go for a long walk to Shoreham-by-Sea, eat loads of home cooked food (I made vegan pumpkin curry) and then snuggle up in front of the log burner or slobbing out in front of the huge TV.

As a family we all had plenty of special moments during our stay. My sister loved having a long hot bubble bath each morning – she even managed to read a book too. The boys had loads of fun playing football in the fields opposite the stables. My brother-in-law played his guitar and gave us a ‘chilled out’ session while we were cooking diner. And I got my hands dirty making a proper log fire as well as taking lots of photos of the interiors for the blog.

When asking my nephew their highlights, they both LOVED helping me make up the fire then toasting marshmallows. That got a 10 out of 10.

It’s true what they say…it really is all about the simple things in life sometimes.

The views from The Sussex Stables are pretty special. We watched the clouds roll across the sea from the full-height windows during the day. And in the evenings, we all snuggled under a blanket on the sofa to watch the winter sunset from the large windows. ^^ This was our view ^^^

This is our first proper family holiday together and we now planning our next trip. We’re thinking of heading to Elderflower Fields music festival together complete with fancy dress.

If you are looking for a ‘stay-cation’ that is close to the city of Brighton (but with a backdrop of rolling hills and sea scapes) then this is the spot for you. As it hosts up to eight people, it’s a picturesque setting that is ideal for one or two families, a small group of friends gathering for a celebration, or for taking time out with your family – this is a dream find in Sussex.

I could imagine this is the perfect place to escape to at any time of the year. Or maybe I’ll just stay all year 🙂

Available to rent at Mulberry Cottages Holiday Lets from £750-£2,000 per night.
