When it comes to environmental change, we all know everyday choices can have a huge impact (esp when on a global scale). At WeLoveHomeBlog we love a scented candle so when we were asked by PartyLite if we would help them support Earth Hour, held this year on 26th March at 8.30pm, we were in. Earth Hour is a movement that started 2007 in Australia and has grown from a symbolic lights-out event into an annual event spanning across more than 7000 cities in 163 countries. It encourages individuals, business and communities to turn the light off with the aim to show their support for environmentally-sustainable actions.

While we all know one hour will not stop climate change, participation in Earth Hour shows a commitment to change beyond the hour, supported by the charity WWF. You can follow the event online to watch its global impact, or set up your own event. The aim of the event is to think about making small changes in the future, from turning off non-essential lights at home to using low-energy light bulbs and thinking about how light pollution effects our environment ,as well as the drive to use fossil fuels can affect animals living in their natural habitats.

‘A simple event can be just turning off all non-essential lights from 8.30-9.30pm. To celebrate, you can have a candlelit dinner party or go star-gazing without the light pollution [we like both ideas], or just join in a local event in your area’.

Candle company PartyLite is encouraging everyone to celebrate Earth Hour, by donating £1/€1 to the Earth Hour Movement for every Brighter World jar candle sold during the month of March. Brighter World candles are soy candles that benefit the local communities in France, Laos, the Comoros Islands and support sustainable agricultural practices and regional conservation efforts, so it is a win-win for everyone. They will also be holding events around the country as they celebrate this movement during the whole evening.

Chart your evening with #EarthHour2015 and fight climate change in your own small way.
